Samesun Kelowna

Samesun Kelowna

Large 3 floor hostel situated right downtown minutes from the beach. Freshly renovated with all the amenities you expect in a hostel – bunk beds, lockers in every room, AC in every room, personal reading lamp and power outlets by each bed to charge your devices. Upgraded WiFi to let you upload your photos and keep in touch with your family. Popular among international travelers looking for budget accommodation and looking to meet new friends – we’re a very social establishment. Most rooms are mixed gender, with a small number of female-only rooms. Private rooms with/without washrooms are also available – but quickly sell out. All guests must be over 19 and have their own credit card. We cannot accommodate any children or pets.

  1. Private Rooms

     (4 / 5)

Spent night in a private room. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom plain and spacious. I loved the big dining room where you can hang out and meet other travellers or get some work done. Only a few blocks from a myriad of restaurants, coffee shops, art galleries and downtown shopping.

  2. Really good budget accommodation

     (4 / 5)

We stayed for 2 nights in a private room with our own bathroom – the room was a good size & everything was clean. Free breakfast was available (although we didn’t use this) & the kitchen was well equipped. Shared spaces were well kept & the outside area was really nice. There is also free parking available. nIt is in a great location downtown, right by the lake. It is within walking distance to the waterfront & some great bars/restaurants. nSaw on a couple of reviews that people mentioned they did not want to walk around the area in the dark, we did not have this problem (2 female travellers). We felt the area was as safe as to be expected & did not have any problems. nThere is also a fab cafe around the corner (Bread Co) which do some great food too!

  3. Time spent at the hostel

     (4 / 5)

I liked the free breakfast each morning. It was a good variety. The people and staff are very friendly. Lots of things to do during the day. The bathrooms are well equipped. There is a great choice of rooms and different prices. I enjoyed my time there.

  4. Really good budget accommodation

Everything you need for a budget stay in Kelowna. Breakfast was included (cereals, toast, pancakes, fruit, coffee) and the kitchen was well equipped if you wanted to cook your own food too. WiFi was good and the shared spaces in general were clean and pleasant.nI shared a 4-bunk dorm with my friends, it was decent, reasonably clean, lockers were available and there was plenty of space. Bathroom facilities were spacious and clean. My only criticism is that there was a knack to getting the key to work in the dorm door, which not all of us grasped.nThe location was really convenient as we were in Kelowna for a festival in the Downtown area, which was walkable in a few minutes. It’s also really close to the waterfront and harbour. The area in general felt quite safe in the daytime, but I wouldn’t want to wander around alone after dark.nAll in all I would recommend it.

  5. Average hostel!

     (3 / 5)

After having an amazing experience in the Banff samesun a few days prior, we were pretty disappointed with this place! nThe rooms and facilities were pretty good with a large kitchen and dining areas. However, for a hostel of this size, we thought that it lacked atmosphere and any sort of vibe, which is what backpackers look for when travelling! nWould certainly advise taking a leaf out of banffs book by having more nightly events on, that could bring the place to life a bit more! nOther than that, great location and close to the city centre!

  6. Good for budget travellers

     (4 / 5)

Pros: Near the city centre. Excellent equipment of the common area. Good value for money. Basic breakfast included.Neutral: had a room for two. It was extremely small, just to fit the bed, but it had its own bathroom.Cons: at least the floor was quite dirty. Noisy, not because of the other quests (that was ok), but because of the Trans-Canada HWY just in front of the building and poor insulation of the windows.

  7. Wasnu2019t the worst place we stayed

     (3 / 5)

We stayed here for one night in a private double room. Check in was simple and we were greeted with smiles and explained everything. We did request parking but I guess it was full so we had to park down the street. The room was clean and everything we needed for one night however the walls are thin and the young couple next door made a lot of noise on their return. This is a young vibe here but there is a large kitchen with lots of communal space, tea and coffee whenever. Can’t comment on the breakfast and we were on the road before hand. nThere was a couple of guys in the hostel who appeared to be using the facilities and I feel awful for saying but seemed homeless. nWe did enjoy our stay though and the staff were extremely pleasant.

  8. Feels Like Home

I stayed several nights and switched rooms once. Greeted with smiles and helpful indivduals. Alexandra assisted me with checking in and laundry room, which was helpful when a bottle of bubble bath spilled all over my luggage. Jazz offered to help me clean up, which was greatly appreciated. Alexandra later called to say I left a pair of shoes behind, while Flo spoke of his previous work in Paris. These people welcomed other visitors from all over the world, with care and attention to their needs. As a professional cleaner, I have high standards and my expectations were met. The communal kitchen provided various, complimentary, delicous breakfast options. Outside was a hot tub, hammock and comfy seating areas to lounge or play games. Due to my positive experience, I am staying at the Samesun in Vancouver. My only recommendation would be in the private bathrooms to have local small soap packets that contain goat milk and offer the same in lotion/ shampoo options. One bar of goat milk soap can be recut and wrapped as a sustainable resource.

  9. Great place for a good price

I had a great time here. Felt super safe (personally and for my belongings), and found it clean. It was relatively quiet in my room. Early sleeper, and I never heard any crazy parties happening at night
