Desert Centre

Desert Centre

The Osoyoos Desert Centre is a 67 acre nature interpretive facility where visitors can learn about desert ecology, habitat restoration and conservation of endangered ecosystems in the South Okanagan. Guests are invited to explore Canada\u2019s desert by taking a guided or self-guided tour along a 1.5 km elevated wooden boardwalk. In addition, the Centre features an interpretive facility with hands-on exhibits and a native plant demonstration garden. Visitors can also browse through our Gift Shop, enjoy a snack in the outdoor picnic area, or relax at one of the kiosks and take in the spectacular views.

This is very educational, take a guided tour and you learn a lot about this dessert what kind of plant are there growing and which animals living in this desert

  2. Great staff

The location is small and you can only enjoy so many. Fake snakes. I would love if the theatre had been open and id like to see much more native arts and crafts. nnIts a spot you have to go to at least oce and maybe again if they add more. nn

  3. Interesting and affordable

This was a worthwhile place to visit. We took a guided tour and our children and ourselves all learned something. nBonus you can bring your pet and they offer free pet sitting!nLots of parking. Indoor and outdoor activity. Bring water and wear a hat and comfortable shoes.

  4. Informative

We were disappointed that there were no guided tours the day we visited. However, the self guided walk was still informative. We enjoyed learning about our Canadian desert We would definitely recommend a visit to the Desert Centre when visiting this area.

  5. Great tour of the Okanagan desert.

Very interesting and informative tour of the Okanagan desert. A great way to learn about the different plant and animal species that live here and how they survive. Go in the morning when it’s not so hot.

  6. Join the guided tour if you can; it definitely beats self-guided tour

We went to this little Desert Centre and joined the guided tour. Being an ecologist myself, I know quite a bit of the desert biology already. However, we found the guided tour very informative and the lady guiding the tour taught us a few prominent desert plants, pointed out to us some features we would otherwise have missed but were critically important to the desert ecosystem. It was definitely worthwhile to join the guided tour (it is free once you paid the entrance fee anyway so why not?). The guided tour is 10 am, noon and 2 pm every day during the summer and it is a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Osoyoos. You get a $1 discount if you bring in one of their promotion card (available at the place we stayed and I believe in most hotels or resorts in Osoyoos as well). nLike most of the nature stuff, it takes patience and being quiet to be able to truly enjoy the desert ecosystem; we had a young child with us so neither was feasible. Still, we found the tour very informative and educational We went for the 2 pm, the hottest time of the day, for the guided tour. It may have been a bit better if we had gone on the morning one. Make sure to have sunscreen, sunglasses, hats and bring a water bottle. Children 5 and younger are free. Adults $7 per person but with the discount card it becomes $6 per person It closes at 4:30 pm.

We enjoyed seeing the Desert Centre, but were not too overly pleased with what we saw. It was not particularly spectacular
