  1. Fantastic, fresh take-out!

     (4 / 5)

We had the take-out family fish and chip special and a Tandoori Roll (curried chicken and lettuce/veggies wrapped in a naan). The fish was possibly the best take-out fish I have ever eaten! It was very fresh (he cut up a whole piece of fish and battered it and fried it right there) and cooked to perfection! The chips were also delicious with a really pleasant seasoning. My husband LOVED the tandoori roll. There is just the one chef and he cooks everything fresh, so there was a 25 minute wait for our order, which was fine for us as we live just around the corner, but next time we’ll call ahead. SUPER friendly service. We will definitely be back for more! Such a hidden gem!

  2. Food was quite good - service adequate - it's not really a restaurant as such

     (4 / 5)

This appears to be primarily a halal shop and Asian food mart and a takeaway with a table and chairs on the premises for those who want to eat on site. As such, it’s pointless to comment on service or ambience as such. My review of 4 stars, therefore, is a comment only on the quality of the food – and even then, pls bear in mind that I have a high tolerance for spicy food. We were visiting Kelowna and looking for halal options and this is the only one that came up on the search engines. The food is good – the wait was not long, the portion sizes were more than adequate. The area for eating was clean. The food was well-presented and arranged. We ordered Nasi Goreng and it was piping hot and flavourful. Would I recommend the place? Yes, if you’re starving and need halal food and don’t mind the somewhat casual dining area. And yes, I would recommend this place even more as a takeaway. No, if you’re looking for an actual restaurant because from a google search it’s not that easy to ascertain that angle of it.

  3. Sweet Little Place To Eat

     (4 / 5)

Went here to eat about a week ago. Just so you know it’s not really a market like a grocery store. The owner does sell some seafood and some canned goods but its basically a small eatery. Food is really good though. Really good butter chicken. Fish and chips are also really good. Much better than I thought it was going to be. Seating is limited to about 10 seats but there is a take out menu. I do highly recommend that if you are planning a large order to call in advance. The owner is the only cook and he can only handle so many orders. Owner is nice though and he works hard.

  4. Best butter chicken anywhere

  5. Just a little corner of culinary heaven

Don’t expect a refined decor or posh presentation. You go there for the genuinely great food. That guy makes the most amazing batter and the butter chicken is absolutely fantastic.

  6. Singapore food. Authentic ! Delicious! Affordable!

     (5 / 5)

Amir’s market is the kind of a place that should remain a secret. But I do wish him well and so the secret is out. Small menu is packed with flavour made to order and served piping hot in temperature and spice. None of the bs north american adapted bland and sweet asianese hybrid food. This one is as real as they come. Singapore cuisine is a pirate mix of chinese and indian muslim influenced food, served to you by a nice guy who cooks it really really well. It is simple and delicious. He also makes the best tandoori chicken in town but you have to cook it yourself over charchoal bbq for best results.

  7. Great lunch

Amir’s market offers the best lunch specials in Rutland in MHO. Very good, well spiced Singaporean-Malay food. Amir is a friendly and interesting man.

  8. A Taste of Malaysia in Rutland

     (4 / 5)

Simply said, it’s a taste of Malaysia in – of all places – Rutland. Haven’t been here in a couple of years, since the cafu00e9 venture started and subsequently failed. Amir (who is a Malay from Singapore) has continued his halal market/butchery and little cookery in its original location of 112 Gray Road. We ordered, to go (there are tables in there but not the nicest place), and food as always is prepared fresh and thus takes time (handy as we can browse inside the two nearby thrift shops). My wife ordered the nasi goreng and chicken wings special. The nasi goreng is tasty but not particularly chili hot. She always loves the wings here. I had the chicken curry which is tasty but could have done with a bit more sauce and tastier (as in coconutty) rice. Amir had made a beef rendang for his Sunday special and my wife took a frozen container to go. It was very nice, tender beef, delicately spiced (I could smell and taste what appeared to be lemon grass and fish sauce). Make your own coconut rice, close your eyes and you could think you’re in Malaysia except it’s 3C outside. Amir still makes special dishes for Sunday. You’re supposed to call and order by 3pm Saturday. .Do note the rather unusual opening times.

  9. Friendly service, OK food

We popped in here after a day at the lake. The owners were lovely, really friendly and welcoming. Food was ok, not bad but nothing amazing either, large portions though!
